How to plan a destination wedding

So you said YES!, you've set a budget and you think you've found the perfect dress. Now you’re excited to start planning the biggest and most awesome party.....or are you?

Here is a little advice for those of you who don't fancy the 150 + guest list and all the stress that goes along with it!!

No matter what date you have chosen, planning should start as soon as you have decided that a destination wedding is for you. Start by deciding on the country, then cement the day that the actual venue. The earlier you make your reservations, the better chance you have of scoring an awesome deal. You’ll also need to make sure you are aware of that countries immigration and visitation policies, visas etc.

If the idea of being stuck in the same place makes you a little stir crazy, consider a cruise. You can explore the boat for a few days, get married out on the deck in the middle of the ocean and then enjoy your honeymoon stopping at various ports along the way.

No matter where you go in the world, there are a lot of laws that you can run afoul of if you’re not careful. Make sure you research the laws surrounding weddings, marriage licence and legal documents, vacations, and religious ceremonies before you get your heart set on getting married in a foreign country. Most destinations will be happy to provide (for a price) a local expert to guide you through these hoops and make sure everything is Kosher. The last thing you want is to get there and find out your missing important documentation.

There often won’t be many guests if you choose a destination wedding, but the ones that do attend are shelling out quite a bit of money and taking some serious time off to be there. The least you can do is offer them some courtesies. Be very clear in what you expect of them and what they can expect of you. Help them find a decent place to stay, and if you can, help them organize themselves so that they can figure out their budget and expenses more easily.

A destination wedding is a massive exercise in research, planning, and preparation. Get it all done right, and the ceremony will be a beautiful exchange of vows against one of the most perfect backdrops in the world, as well as an unforgettable experience for you and your guests.
